    The Atacama Crossing 2008 - Results

    Dean Karnazes has won the 6 stage Atacama Crossing 2008 in Chile. The race is one of a series of events entitled 4 Deserts, which take place in China, Egypt and Antarctica. Rob James was second and third was Johan Petersen. First lady home was the UK’s Mim Anderson, second was Yukako Hayashi, Japan and third lady was Annick Berghman from the United States.

    Marathon Des Sables - Results 2008

    Mohamad Ahansal wins the 23rd Marathon des Sables race in Morocco. Second place went to Salameh Al Aqra from Jordan and third was Aziz El Akad also from Morocco. First lady was Touda Didi also from Morocco.

    Dates for the YAU 2009

    For all of you interested in the YAU 2009 I have the dates! We start Feb. 15th at 10.30 in Whitehorse. Those of you interested in dog mushing will once again be able to witness the start of the Yukon Quest the day before. It’s a great experience to see all these dog teams taking off into the wilderness. (more…)

    The race is over and the results are in though the blog indicates that Michele Santilhano decided to turn it into a pilgrimage… We await news of her journey through the frozen wilderness. Winners were John Storkamp and Sarah Lowell.

    Yukon Arctic Ultra - January Newsletter 2008

    Hello everyone,

    it finally has arrived. The Whitehorse cold spell. Before each race there has been a period of really cold temperatures in Whitehorse. This time this period took a long time to arrive. As I write this it is – 43 degrees Celsius in the capital of the Yukon. The coldest we have had at the startline was around – 20 degrees C. Maybe we are in for a new record this time …

    I will leave for Whitehorse on Feb. 4th. So, from Feb. 5th onwards I can be reached in the High Country Inn. With this last newsletter before the race I just want to give some updates and other important information. (more…)

    Yukon Arctic Ultra May 2007 Newsletter

    Hello everyone,
    12 athletes have signed up already

    Quite a few athletes have decided to sign up early this year. 6 of them have opted for the 100 miles and 6 of them will go for the 300 miles. Ian Archer is back to finish the 100 after having to withdraw this year due to problems with his sled. Mark Allen will also give it another try and hopefully go all the way to Pelly Crossing in the 300 this time. The other athletes currently on the race roster, Mark Schofield, Folker Schulz, Clive Gott, Martin Bethell, Huw Owen, Peter Gold, Chris Hughes, Jerym Brunton, Roderick Rennsion and Mark Rennison are new to the YAU.     The final day of thr Marathon Des Sables saw Stage 6 won by Mohamed Ahansal followed by his brother Lahcen who wins his 10th MDS overall.

    Runner Dies at Marathon Des Sables 2007 (MDS)

    After Stage Three

    Morrocans lead the MDS 1,2 and 3 with the Ahancel brothers in first and second place and in third place is Aziz El Akad. First lady is Frenchwoman Laurence Fricotteaux in 19th place overall who has half an hour or so on Morrocan Touda Didi. Third lady is Géraldine Courdesses also from France. (more…)
