24 Hour World Championships 2007, Quebec, Canada

My Report Part 2

There were about 200 runners at the starting line at 2pm on Saturday, I believe 145 in the Elite race and 48 in the Open event. It was quite hot and humid at the start. Starting on a slight hill the course then runs on a flat straight street , then a long uphill over a bridge. I have to say the course was very hilly, with a steep downhill into the dugout area.Considering the difficulty of the course some of the performances were really good. early on the Hungarian Janos Bogar set a really strong pace, but suddenly at about 3 in the morning he was gone. It was then down to a battle between the Japanese and the French, with American Phil McCarthy running strong in 4 th place. On the womens side it was between the Russians and the French. The race itself was exciting to be part of and to observe. Though I think there will be some questions about the organization, which I think maybe did not live up to all it’s promises. That is something that I am sure will be addressed by the appropriate people at the right time. I will however commend Michel Careu who spent time during the race walking the course showing his support for the runners. My experience, though not my best performance was generally an enjoyable one and I am very happy I went. I am sure there will be more detailed reports posted in other places be sure to check them out.

That’s it from me, hope you enjoyed, if anyone else wants to add something leave a comment. What about Tony Mangan I know he was there and let me say it was nice to meet you.
