    The Coastal Challenge, Expedition Run

    PRESS RELEASE
    October 2nd, 2007

THE COASTAL CHALLENGE WILL AWARD ENTRY SLOT TO PRIMAL QUEST EXPEDITION ADVENTURE RACE

Promotional Partnership Reflects Growing Popularity of Team Running and Expedition-Length Endurance Races

TRUMBULL, CONN. — The Coastal Challenge Expedition Run (TCC) has partnered with Primal Quest Expedition Adventure Race (PQ) in a promotional agreement that, among other things, allows TCC to offer one guaranteed slot to the 2008 PQ race.

The top winning team at TCC in 2008 will be given the option between the guaranteed slot to PQ or a free 3-person team entry to TCC in 2009 (value of approximately $5,850 USD). The second place team will receive the prize not chosen by the first. Racers will still need to pay for their PQ entry fee, but this creates and interesting opportunity for adventure racers who are seeking a coveted spot for the sold-out adventure race.

While running is generally considered an individual’s sport, the team aspect of The Coastal Challenge is stronger than ever this year — similar to the adventure racing world where teams are typically required. TCC and PQ realized a number of fundamental similarities when considering the partnership: both are expedition length events, both host races in spectacular natural settings, both can be considered one of the most difficult tests of human endurance, and both attract top athletes from around the world.

“The Coastal Challenge and Primal Quest have each built world-class brands and are at the top of athletes’ minds and race wish lists each year,” said Tim Holmstrom, TCC race director and co-founder who is also on PQ’s race management team. “This is a great partnership for both events, and we expect the PQ entry to be an exciting opportunity for our teams who also compete in adventure races. Our next course will be harder than ever and have a more adventurous feel to it. We’re not your typical ultra marathon, and that’s why teams are such a good fit.”

“Primal Quest is very proud to partner with The Coastal Challenge, an extraordinary expedition for anybody looking for a real physical challenge in some of the most remote and beautiful areas of Central America. Tim Holmstrom is a master when it comes to race course design and management and we’re honored to have him on the PQ team”.
    - Don D. Mann, CEO Primal Quest

The Coastal Challenge 2008 Expedition Run will be held in Northwest Costa Rica from January 27 to February 8. Primal Quest will be held June 21 – July 2, 2008 in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States. You can find more information at www.thecoastalchallenge.com and www.ecoprimalquest.com.
