    Together We Run

    August 23, 2007 at 1:12 pm

by Abichal in Charity Runs, Inspiring Stories

John Wallace III recently finished a trans-USA crossing and now his parents have embarked on a campaign of their own, already on Day 46.

    John writes:
Many of you may be independently receiving emails from my folks but if not I wanted to get this out before they are into their fourth state.

They are clipping along at about 16 miles per day and are almost into Kentucky with their longest state, Illinois, in the rear view mirror. I couldn’t be prouder at their perseverance and positive attitude as the weather has been either rainy or muggy for many of the days on the road. They have spent almost 70% of the time sleeping in their tent through all sorts of hot and rainy conditions meeting all sorts of great folks in the process.

The run has already garnered local newspaper coverage as well as a regional
television spot along with archives online. This has lead to greater
exposure for their Alzheimer’s Disease cause which many people are connected
to through parents, grandparents, and other usually elderly people.
Although not affiliated (yet) with the Memory Walk 2007, the Alzheimer’s
    Association’s effort to end Alzheimer’s Disease [ www.alz.org/ ], the
runners’ efforts for local (Michigan) GPS bracelets for patients has been
very positive and they have been raising money for several of them already.
If you were hesitant in donating to their cause, perhaps you would be
interested in making a donation to the national mission or starting a team
to walk and “MOVE a nation to end Alzheimer’s”.

If anyone lives along or knows someone who lives along the remaining route,
they’d love to camp in your front yard, borrow some wi-fi internet, do a
load of laundry, charge up their electronics, or just chit-chat about
running and achieving your adventurous dreams.

For those not living along the remaining route (IL, KY, TN, MS), please
    check out their website at:
    www.togetherwerun.com

Read the blog, sign the guestbook or forum, view the photographs, order a
shirt, and follow along the rest of the summer into late September.

Please let me know if you’d be interested in future emailed updates or just
want to follow along the website at your leisure.

    John
