Subject: Wickham Park stage 1 results
Results for the first of 4 50 mile stages of the Wickham Park 200 mile fun run are posted to http://www.mattmahoney.net Stage 2 will start at 7:30 AM tomorrow with 6 of 38 runners completing 50 miles maintaining their eligibility to continue. The weather was unusually cool, only 84 F. There were 3 new course records so far. David Briz of Miami ran 50 in 7:32, 83 minutes faster than Mark Henderson. Mike Aldrink of NC, a 2:29 marathoner, lowered the marathon course record by 30 minutes to 3:20. Helen Cox lowered the women’s marathon record by 2 minutes to 4:09.
The course is a 3.75 mile trail loop. It rained on laps 2-3 washing away many of the flour arrows, and several runners got lost. Ceal Walker injured her ankle in a jumble of fallen trees on lap 2 and had to be carried out. Wayne Wright, who had a heart bypass 2 months ago, took his doctor’s advice to take it easy, and only ran 30 miles.
